Adding value to your massage, day spa, beauty therapy or natural therapy
business will help you be able to make more money simply by charging more to
your clients.
this is a simple list of some of the things that you can do to increase the
value of your massage or natural therapy treaments:
Remember to keep your current clients coming back -
Offer the client a calm, soothing area, avoid noisy treatment rooms as the
client is there to relax.
Think about the decor or the treatment room - is it calm and relaxing or is it
messy, clinical or bare. Simple things like a relaxing picture would be good,
with ambient lighting. Keep the clinical information for the waiting area, to
support your credentials and expertise.
you could also offer the client a nice herbal tea or warm water at the start
and end of the massage, it does not cost much but makes the client feel
speacial and pampered.
Burning essential oils or fragrant oils will also create a pleasent atmosphere
- if a client then says they like the smell you can offer to sell them a
bottle.
Offer your client a range of quality take home products such as vitamin or
mineral supplements, i.e
magnesium to help with
cramps,
fish oils for inflammation. you could even
retail some
home use massage oils.
at the end of the session remember to provide your clients a business card with
the next appointment scheduled, and do not rush them, it is better to allow
them to take their time getting ready to face the busy world outside rather
than feel rushed
offer reduced rates for multiple visits if they prepay, buy three massages for
10% off, this allows you to bank the money early thus helping with cash flow.
Remember even if the client is coming in for remedial massage or sports massage
your Spa or Massage center needs to be an oasis away from the hustle and bustle
of everyday life, and this will make the client want to come back and escape
more often!
How to gain new massage clients
If you are not sure what your clients in the area are interested in you can do
an informal survey of your current clients to find out more.
Find out what the competition is charging and make sure you are not over
priced, or way under priced.
In order to broaden your appeal and skills you should continue to update your
qualifications. Maybe you can set a goal to take classes every year, this will
help you become an expert and set you aside from local competitors. I.e.
Classes which teach you how to work with a specific disease or condition will
make you an expert in that area.
Some areas to think about specializing in are Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release,
cranio-sacral therapy, lymphatic massage, sports massage (specific sports!) or
triggerpoint therapy. Deep tissue is advertised a lot but not many really do
it.
you could also approach local Sports teams with a group offer, sports massage
for sports such as cycling, basketball, football, soccer and cricket will have
a lot of work for you and you may need to be on call constantly.
If you are still looking for more clients you could consider a mobile massage
business going into people's homes. You can charge more or set it up so that
you don't go into a home for less than 2 people making it more worth it for
you. You have to include your travel time and set up time in the rates you set.
Finally you can contact local hotels who obviously have people who have money
going there. Targeting people who have money is just as challenging as to those
who don't as some don't want to part with their money.
