Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Melrose Glucosamine different?
Until Melrose Plant Sourced Glucosamine became available all glucosamines were sourced from Chitin, a major component of shellfish. This posed an allergy risk to many consumers.
Melrose Plant Sourced Glucosamine is a unique new form of Glucosamine hydrochloride. Sourced from fermented corn it is 100% free from shellfish or animal ingredients.
Melrose Plant Sourced Glucosamine is also Gluten Free, Halal and Kosher.
There are two major forms of Glucosamine, the hydrochloride form and the sulphate form.
There is a discussion over which of the two glucosamine salts, hydrochloride or sulphate, is preferred for the treatment of osteoarthritis. Glucosamine sulphate is the form used in much of the clinical trials conducted. It is important to understand that both salts, in the pure form, deliver equally effective amounts of glucosamine to joint cartilage. The hydrochloride form yields 83.1% glucosamine and the sulphate form yields 62.8% with the remaining 20% being sodium or potassium chloride.
Both forms of glucosamine dissolve in the stomach's hydrochloride acid, which makes all the glucosamine readily available for absorption in the small intestine.
How long until I see any difference?
Glucosamine is not a drug. It takes time for your body to incorporate glucosamine into tissue; 4-6 weeks are needed before results are seen.
Can I still take my medication?
Yes, Glucosamine can be used in conjunction with anti-inflammatory medication.
Conventional treatment for the symptoms of osteoarthritis involves the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's). While NSAID's are effective in treating the pain they do not address the problem and offer no long-term solution. Also, there can be serious side effects with their use long term. Reports have compared glycosamine to the effects of Ibuprofen; an NSAID.A study conducted on 118 people taking glycosamine hydrochloride demonstrated an equivalent reduction of pain to Ibuprofen treatment.
Several other studies conducted have shown that participants taking glucosamine daily had minimal deterioration in joint space compared with counterparts who took a placebo.
Unlike NSAID's, glucosamine has shown to be a safe natural and effective treatment for joint pain, stimulating the growth and repair of cartilage tissue and improving mobility.
While glucosamine takes about 4-6 weeks to deliver results over the long term it offers an outstanding alternative.
Dosage
take two capsules daily.
